Essie Bridal Comparisons - Blush-Worthy

I wish I got Julep Tasha last holiday, I think that would be really close to Blush-Worthy, instead I have her darker sister Sylvie instead. Just imagine Sylvie more of a melon color and you have Tasha, which I think would be reasonably close.

Erika is pretty close, it’s sheerer though and lacks Blush-Worthy’s larger flakies. I think if you mixed some of Chloe into Erika you’d have Blush-Worthy. Princesses Rule is in the same family but it’s not the same shade of pink and it’s sheerer.

I’m surprised I have way more comparisons for this than I do for Apartment for Two!

Sloane is less red and more purple, and has less shimmer. Good Girl Gone Bad is an actual glitter that doesn’t dry smooth, as well it’s also warmer, this is one I’d definitely say if you’re a fan of Good Girl Gone Bad go check out Rich & Brazilian. Britta is lighter and has gold shimmer in it. The three on the far right have distinctly different glitter colors: Darkest Shadow is too red, Sansa is too gold, and Cosmo with a Twist is too blue. Black Cherry Chutney is actually a similar color to Rich & Brazilian’s base, it just doesn’t have any of Rich & Brazilian’s sparkle. I threw in Queen of the Night, but it’s rather darker and the glitter is less dense. Jem and Taboo are a lot more vibrant and have more gold in their shimmer. The closest thing I have is Scorpio – the base colors are really close but Scorpio’s glitter is silverier. Rich & Brazilian’s mix of pink, red, and a little bit of blue is really unique!

Holiday 2016 Comparisons - OPI Black Dress Not Optional (Breakfast at Tiffany's)

I wanted to show Black Dress Not Optional next to a true black crème (Willa) just to show you how metallic it is. Raven and Bernadette are the only other polishes in the lot that are a true black besides Black Dress Not Optional, but Raven has a much subtler shimmer and Bernadette has chunky silver glitter. Love is Hot and Coal is in real life more of a chocolatey brown, and Claudine is a dark gray, kind of like how black pencil lead is really a dark gray instead of black. Queen of the Road is a much warmer black, as is Black Diamond, but they’re all pretty close.

Side note: I forgot Bernadette in my first shots, but those were my best shots of the other colors so I’ll include them here.

Man, as cool as Zoya’s Matte Velvet bottles look, they are not ideal for these swatch photos!

Take my word on Sue and Breakfast at Tiffany’s – Sue is darker and more of a gold while Breakfast at Tiffany’s is more of a warm neutral with gold shimmer in it. Sue also has some pink shimmer, absent in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Also L.A.M.B. is super gold and way darker.

Glimmer and Whatever Lola Wants are so different I forgot why I put them in here (they’re both sheer toppers.) Rage is bronze and Miss Independent is pink, but I wanted to show them anyway. Beatrice is way too warm and Getting Groovy doesn’t have nearly enough silver to compare. My Favorite Ornament is a glitter, and it’s golder, but otherwise they’re pretty close. Judy and Five-and-Ten though are really close. Judy has a smidge more pink in the glitters but they’re almost exactly the same.

I wanted to show Five-and-Ten against a real silver foil just to show you that Five-and-Ten isn’t a silver foil in the slightest. I thought Centennial Celebration would be closer, but where Five-and-Ten is pink, Centennial Celebration is gold.

For Audrey, the classic Tiffany blue nail polish, has a lot more green in it, and I’d say it’s closer to a true Tiffany blue (Tiffany and Co. has the exact shade trademarked). Anyway, My Boy Lollipop and Meet Me at the Rink are lighter and Lillian, Gelato, and Udon are also greener. In fact, I Believe in Manicures is probably the least green shade in the lot. Sailing & Nailing though is eerily close for a polish only about 6 months older than I Believe in Manicures. It’s lighter and again, greener, but they’re too close to really need both.

Note: My bottle of Got the Blues For Red is gone but I wish it wasn’t because I would love to compare it to CRw/omLs!

W/o My Lipstick is one of the brighter polishes here, but Courtney is still brighter. Claire is close but more brown. The berry tone of Velvet Bow really shows up in the flash pic, but they’re much closer in person. I was thinking that Ravishing would be a dead-on dupe but it’s actually a bit darker, as are Visions of Love and Material Girl.

Holiday 2016 Comparisons - OPI Fire Escape Rendezvous (Breakfast at Tiffany's)

Of course, none of these polishes contain those shards of red glitter like Fire Escape Rendezvous have. However, I do know of a polish that does have them that would actually be pretty comparable – Lippmann Marrakesh Express. Unfortunately, I don’t have that one, and I couldn’t find it for a reasonable price on eBay so I’m not sure if it’s going to happen. I think it’s more orange, but anyway they might be close though. Instead, I’ll just be comparing it to colors with a similar base.

Now, if you’re looking for Fire Escape Rendezvous but without the chunky glitter, might I recommend Stop that Train? It’s a little more orange and less red but they give a very similar feel. Aphrodite and Cherry Bomb are more orange and brighter, Carrie Ann is way closer in person but the glitter in Carrie Ann is much finer, Elisa’s not orange enough, Wonder Woman is darker and Y’all Red-y is much cooler toned.

Holiday 2016 Comparisons - OPI Champagne for Breakfast and Sunrise...Bedtime!

Note: Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find my bottle of Orly Shine On Crazy Diamond, I’ll probably have to buy another one. Once I do or my old bottle shows up, I’ll definitely compare it to Champagne for Breakfast because they’re probably really close.

Fairy Dust is a way more refined glitter, but they flash many of the same colors strongly (a lot of green, red, and blue). At the risk of getting my polish lovers’ card taken away, I actually prefer Champagne for Breakfast by a long shot because unlike Fairy Dust, Champagne for Breakfast actually dried on my nails in less than an hour! Champagne for Breakfast and Sunrise…Bedtime look really close in the flash photo but they’re noticeably different in real life. Sunrise…Bedtime is distinctly rosy toned. I thought Explosion of Fun was going to be kind of in the same boat but it’s not even close.

Edit 7/9/17: But wait! I do have something close to Sunrise...Bedtime!

Say hello to China Glaze You're Too Sweet (Star Hopping, Holiday 2015). It's a lot closer. The glitter in You're Too Sweet is finer and darker than Sunrise...Bedtime, but they're close enough you don't need both.

Holiday 2016 Comparisons - OPI Apartment for Two (Breakfast at Tiffany's)

For some reason I do not know, I have nothing exactly the same as Apartment for Two. I have stuff that’s close but nothing is exact!

I thought Jolene and Status Symbol would be super close, but they’re really quite lighter. In fact, most of the crèmes I thought would be close to Apartment for Two were actually quite lighter. Rich & Famous, Morgan, and Amanda are much closer, but still Rich & Famous is lighter and a bit warmer, Amanda is dustier, and Morgan is brighter (although they’re very close.) Now, Hey Baby, Girls Love Ponies, and Apartment for Two. None of them are dupes of one another. Really. Hey Baby is way lighter, it feels like a drop of Jolene or Status Symbol got in the formula. Apartment for Two and Girls Love Ponies are closer, but Girls Love Ponies is distinctly more cool toned when you put them side by side. I imagine if you weren’t a pink fan one would do, but they’re nevertheless not the same!

The differences between these three are more apparent in person than the photo, but Princess Grace is less of a bright white and has a bit of a gray tone to it. Girls Love Pearls is the brightest white of the three, Kyoto Pearl more of a basic white. You don’t need all three of them.

Now, Can’t Tame a Wild Thing is a jelly, and I really don’t have that many jellies in this color, so I’ve mostly compared this to crèmes in the same color family.

These two are weird: in some lights, like the light I took these pictures in, they look completely identical. In others, The Heat is On is distinctly a tomato red while CTaWT is still really orange. I’d say they’re too close you don’t need them both but still not absolute dupes.

Heidi, Color Binge, and I Brake for Colour are way lighter. A Good Man-darin, Pop the Trunk, and Meet Me at Sunset don’t have enough red in them to compare. Race Red though could be the crème version of CTaWT. Happy Wife Happy Life is a smidge darker and dustier. Tasmanian Devil is also close but it’s a little lighter and pinker. Fifth Avenue is also also close but there’s a little less pink.
