Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Essie Dressed to the Nineties (As If) - Part 2

From left to right: Yasmeen (Provocateur, Summer 2006), Let’s Groove (Retro Diva, Autumn 2009), Velvet Rope (Hot Stuff, Summer 2007), Sexy Divide (Winter 2008), Juno (Utopia, Holiday 2007), Dressed to the Nineties, First Class Ticket (Vintage Vixen, Autumn 2010), Teen Spirit (Rebel, Autumn 2016), Cosmo with a Twist (Starlight, Holiday 2015), Mariah (New Year Fresh Look, January 2016), Maggie (November 2011), Sagittarius (Zodiac, December 2016), Haute Tub (Virgin Snow, Holiday 2015), Sansa (Ignite, Autumn 2014), Frock n Roll (Leggy Legend, Autumn 2015)

Again, Dressed to the Nineties’ green shimmer stands alone. Now I put it next to Juno because Juno in person does have a really nice green flash too, it’s just very different from Dressed to the Nineties. It’s way warmer and more of a true duochrome than a base with shimmer. Everything else is a whole other animal entirely.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Essie Dressed to the Nineties (As If) - Part 1

From left to right: Dora (Stroke of Midnight Mystery Box, December 2016), Paula (Countdown, December 2014), Prima Donna (A Night at the Opera, Autumn 2013), Dressed to the Nineties, Turn on the Northern Lights (Iceland, Autumn 2017), Groove Thang (Dance to the Musique, Autumn 2008), Songbird Serenade (My Little Pony, Summer 2017), Totally in the Dark (Spring 2013)

Nothing else has Dressed to the Nineties’ green shimmer. Turn on the Northern Lights was probably released to compete with Dressed to the Nineties, but it’s way different. Nothing else is even kind of close.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Essie Girly Grunge (As If) - Part 2

From left to right: Leslie (Delight, Spring 2015), Hudson (Awaken, Spring 2014), Nothing Else Metals (Mirror Metallics, Summer 2012), Girly Grunge, Violet Auction (Slick Oilpaint, Summer 2016), Chrome is Where the Heart Is (House of Colour, Spring 2016), 12th Street Rag (New York Marquee, Autumn 2014)

I thought the three purple Essie metallics would all be a bit closer but they’re all unique, Nothing Else Metals is the lightest, Girly Grunge is the darkest, and Violet Auction is the pinkest. Chrome is Where the Heart Is and 12th Street Rag are also pinker. Leslie and Hudson have different finishes, but Hudson’s a similar color.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Essie Girly Grunge (As If) - Part 2

From left to right: Hotter than Hibiscus (Heavy Petal, Spring 2012), China Doll (Summer 2006), Reykjavik Has all the Hotspots (Iceland, Autumn 2017), S’il Vous Play (S’il Vous Play, Summer 2017), Regina (Rainbow Bright, May 2016), Venus, Geranium Gypsy (Heavy Petal, Spring 2012, Girly Grunge, Areetha, Venus Was Her Name

Hotter than Hibiscus & China Doll are pink but I thought they’d be worth comparing. Reykjavik and S’il Vous Play are also too pink to be a dupe. Regina is lighter, isn’t a metallic, and has blue flecks. Venus Was Her Name is a similar look but it’s a gray with purple shimmer instead of a purple metallic. Venus and Geranium Gypsy are similar, but they’re lighter and Venus has a different finish. Areetha though is pretty close. It’s a bit brighter but you don’t need both.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Essie As If (As If) - Part 2

From left to right: Bevin (True, Spring 2012), Udon Know Me (Kimono Over, Autumn 2016), Lillian (Delight, Spring 2015), Virgin Snow (Virgin Snow, Holiday 2015), Kristen (Feel, Winter 2011), Matilda (Midsummer Light, June 2016), As If, Secret Peri-Wink-le (Operation: Colour, Autumn 2008), Jo (Twist, Spring 2009), Smooth Sailing (Braziliant, Summer 2011), Avenue Maintain (Madison Ave-Hue, Spring 2013)

As If calls to mind the classic China Glaze Secret Peri-wink-le, actually they’re almost head on. As If is more purple and dustier but you don’t need both. Matilda is also similar but it’s noticeably brighter. Bevin, Udon Know Me, and Lillian are way too green, and Virgin Snow and Kristen are too light, and Avenue Maintain is too dark and bright. Jo and Smooth Sailing are of a similar base color but they have a very noticeable shimmer to them.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Essie As If (As If) - Part 1

From left to right: Jessica (April 2012), Sea of Love (Message in a Bottle, Spring 2017), As If, My Boyfriend’s Back (Happy Days, Summer 2016), Sara (Kisses, London, September 2015)

As If kind of falls between the two Lippmanns, Sea of Love and My Boyfriend’s Back. Jessica’s too light, and Sara’s too dark.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Essie Knee-High Life (As If) - Part 2

From left to right: Veronica (Entice, Autumn 2014), Knee-High Life, Margo (Entice, Autumn 2014), In the Lobby (Leggy Legend, Autumn 2015), Toni (Designer, Autumn 2012), Beverly (Poolside, July 2014), Material Girl (Autumn 2007)

I immediately thought Knee-High Life would be a dead on dupe for In the Lobby but it’s not, Knee-High Life is way lighter, you can definitely get both if you want. Veronica is a lot closer to Knee-High Life and Margo falls between Knee-High Life and In the Lobby. Knee-High Life is a bit redder and more vibrant than Veronica but you don’t need both.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Essie Knee-High Life (As If) - Part 1

From left to right: This is Not Whine Country (California Dreaming, Summer 2017), Quite Contrary Berry (Neue Neutrals, Autumn 2007), Paige (Uptown, Autumn 2007), Black Cherry (Velvet Dream, Autumn 2017), Knee-High Life, Sofia (Provocateur, Summer 2006), Stacy (Wonderful, Autumn 2010), Venus in Furs (Star Power, Autumn 2017), Hayley (Modern Smolder, February 2016)

Whine Country is a jelly, Quite Contrary Berry & Paige are too brown, and the three on the end are too dark. Black Cherry is in the same neighborhood but it’s more purple and much brighter. The closest thing here is Sofia, which is a tiny bit more berry.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Essie Saved by the Belle (As If) - Part 2

From left to right: Fresh Prince-ss (Rebel, Autumn 2016), Something Sweet (Up & Away, Spring 2010), Mod About You (Brighter By the Dozen, Summer 2006), Candy Girl (Sweets For My Sweet, Spring 2016), Saved by the Belle, Pink-ing of You (Classics), Laurel (Petals, Spring 2016), Delhi Dance (Going Guru, Resort 2016), Need a Vacation (Spring 2006), Castaway (Summertime, Summer 2004), Shelby (Beach, Summer 2012), Eden (Delight, Spring 2015), Dance Baby (Electropop, Spring 2012), Madison Ave-Hue (Madison Ave-Hue, Spring 2013)

Here’s a massive row of pinks for you! Actually, nothing in this row is exactly like Saved by the Belle. It’s the coolest thing here, except for Candy Girl which is way lighter. Fresh Prince-ss, Something Sweet, Mod About You and Pink-ing of You are also in the same family. The stuff on the right is way off.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Essie Saved by the Belle (As If) - Part 1

Aw, I wish I hadn’t gotten rid of OPI What’s the Double Scoop!

From left to right: Sun Daze (Sunrise Sunset, Summer 2017), Feathered Hair Out To There (Poptastic Pastel Neons, Summer 2015), Jordan (Charming, Spring 2017), Saved by the Belle, Baguette Me Not (S’il Vous Play, Summer 2017), Reese, Belle of a Baller (Spring Pastels, Spring 2017), Malibu Pier Pressure (California Dreaming, Summer 2017)

I was genuinely surprised how close Saved by the Belle and Baguette Me Not are. Baguette is a bit more purple, but they are both awful close. Jordan’s even closer, it’s a tiny bit brighter, but they’re super close. Sun Daze is way too peach, Feathered Hair is a neon (although the color is close), and Reese, Belle of a Baller, and Malibu Pier Pressure are warmer.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Essie Mixtaupe (As If) - Part 2

From left to right: Urban Jungle (Colors in the Wild, Summer 2014), Mixtaupe, Tiramisu for Two (Venice, Autumn 2015), You’re So Vain-illa (Coca Cola, Summer 2014), Jacqueline (Lovely, Spring 2013), Taylor (Naturel, Spring 2014), Prelude to a Kiss (Cool Romance, Spring 2012), Phyllis (Chrysalis, January 2015)

Mixtaupe is reminiscent of one of my all time favorite Essies Urban Jungle, in fact it’s close enough you don’t need both. Mixtaupe is a bit more pink toned but they’re rather close. Everything else is way different though. Nothing else has anywhere close to the amount of white.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Essie Mixtaupe (As If) - Part 1

From left to right: Like a Virgin (Core), Tammy (Spa Essentials), Mixtaupe, Chantal (Naturel, Spring 2014), Tatum (Naturel 3, Spring 2017), Throne-In’ Shade (Street Regal, Autumn 2017), Tip Toe Through the Tulips (Spring Reveries, Spring 2014), Barking up the Wrong Sequoia (California Dreaming, Summer 2017), Gretchen (Spa Essentials)

I have nothing here exactly like Mixtaupe, because Like A Virgin is whiter and it and Tammy are sheers, and everything to the right is too brown, orange, or dark.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Zoya Tabitha (Sophisticates) - Part 2

From left to right: Giovanna (Satins, Autumn 2013), If I Ruled the World (Her Majesty, Holiday 2016), Laughin’ to the Bank (Jewel Heist, Autumn 2013), Mercer (Sparkling Sights, Holiday 2016), Blowin’ Money Fast, British Racing Green (Autumn 2009), Tabitha, Krystle (Dark and Stormy Nights, October 2016), Cuckoo for this Color (Swiss, Autumn 2010), Capricorn (Zodiac, December 2016), Hunter (Cashmeres, Autumn 2013)

Again, Tabitha is one of the only things here that isn’t even slightly teal. The closest thing I have is Krystle, which is also more blue and the shimmer is different. British Racing Green is pretty close too, but the shimmer is blue instead of silver. Hunter is a fairly close crème version but it’s a bit warmer.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Zoya Tabitha (Sophisticates) - Part 1

From left to right: Tongue & Chic (Autumn Nights, Autumn 2013), Baroque Jungle (Street Regal, Autumn 2017), Tabitha, Standing Ovation (A Night at the Opera, Autumn 2013)

Tabitha is the only one of these that isn’t a teal. It’s a forest green.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Zoya Gal (Sophisticates) - Part 2

From left to right: Dillon (Awaken, Spring 2014), Twinkle, Twinkle Little Starfish (Seas & Greetings, Holiday 2016), Francine (Rainbow Bright, May 2016), Visions of Georgia Green (Coca Cola Icons of Happiness, Summer 2015), My Gecko Does Tricks (Hawaii, Spring 2015), Betsey (Peridot for August, August 2015), Gemini (Zodiac, June 2016), Irene (Utopia, Holiday 2007), Gone Glamping (The Great Outdoors, Autumn 2015), Rory (Sparkling Sights, Holiday 2016), Gal, Mind the Gap (All Aboard, Autumn 2014), Aggie (Flair, Autumn 2015), Leo (Zodiac, August 2016)

The stuff on the far left is way off but they’re in the same idea. With regards to other Zoyas, if you mixed Irene and Aggie you’d get Gal. Gone Glamping is similar but it’s a true duochrome, as are Leo and Aggie. I was surprised to see how close Gal and Rory were, Rory’s more glitzy and warmer but they’re really close. Mind the Gap is also really close, it’s warmer and less sparkly but they’re also super close.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Zoya Gal (Sophisticates) - Part 1

From left to right: Marion (Mystery Minis, Summer 2015), It’s A-Boat Time (Spring Fling, Spring 2017), Lacey (Charming, Spring 2017), Gal, Chain Reaction (Rock this Town, Holiday 2012), Tammi (Wanderlust, August 2014)

Lacey is kind of like the spring version of Gal, and Tammi is sort of the summer version. The closest thing I have is Chain Reaction, which if you like Chain Reaction you’ll like Gal but it’s a bit darker and the flecks are different.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Zoya Elaine (Sophisticates) - Part 2

From left to right: Emilia (Naturel Deux, Autumn 2014), Desiree (Focus, Autumn 2015), Louise (Cashmeres, Autumn 2013), Elaine, Nina (Vibe, Autumn 2008), Toni (Designer, Autumn 2012)

Elaine is pretty much a cooler version of the classic Nina. You don’t really need both. Louise is way lighter and warmer.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Zoya Elaine (Sophisticates) - Part 1

From left to right: Mary & Gina (Naturel 3, Spring 2017), That’s what Friends are Thor (Iceland, Autumn 2017), Elaine, Skylla (Dark & Stormy Nights, October 2016), Suzi & the Arctic Fox (Iceland, Autumn 2017), Margarita (Black Magic, October 2014), Viking in a Vinter Vonderland (Nordic, Autumn 2014)

Elaine is kind of equal parts brown and purple so I threw in a couple of each for comparisons. The closest I have is Skylla but it’s less purple and way darker and has silver shimmer.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Zoya Yvonne & Mona (Sophisticates) - Part 2

From left to right: Fishnet Stockings (Core), China Rouge (X Anniversary, Autumn 2007), First Date at the Golden Gate (San Francisco, Autumn 2013), We the Female (Washington DC, Autumn 2016), Yvonne, Mona, Dakota (Vibe, Autumn 2008), Claire (Entice, Autumn 2014), Sasha (Classics), Courtney (Urban Grunge, Autumn 2016), Can’t Read without my Lipstick (Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Holiday 2016), Ravishing, Dahling (Visions of Grandeur, Autumn 2005)

We the Female was a little off from Padma but it’s really close to Yvonne. Yvonne is a tiny bit cooler but you don’t need both. Mona is a bit more in line with the Dakota/Claire/Sasha/Courtney group.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Zoya Yvonne & Mona (Sophisticates) - Part 1

From left to right: Rock n Royale (Street Regal, Autumn 2017), Lady is a Tramp (Core), Evan (Future Fresh, January 2017), Venus in Furs (Star Power, Autumn 2017), Yvonne, Mona, Cassandra (Kisses, London, September 2015), Stacy (Wonderful, Autumn 2010), Jean (Dark & Stormy Nights, October 2016)

Rock n Royale & Lady is a Tramp are both way more true bright red than either Yvonne or Mona. Evan & Venus in Furs are a bit too berry. Cassandra, Stacy, and Jean are a bit too dark. At least in this slide I have no dead on dupes.

Autumn 2017 Comparisons - Zoya Hadley (Sophisticates) - Part 1

From left to right: Catch of the Day (Shimmer Brights, Summer 2016), Sia (Focus, Autumn 2015), Song (Diva, Autumn 2012), Gladys (Dark and Stormy Nights, October 2016), Indie (In the Mix, Autumn 2015), Natty (Designer, Autumn 2012), Sailor (Cashmeres, Autumn 2013), Hadley, Blue Blood (Her Majesty, Holiday 2016), Strangers in the Night (Dressed to the Nines, Holiday 2015), Octavia (Dramatic, February 2014), Arielle (New York Never Sleeps, October 2015), Russian Navy (Russia, Autumn 2007)
Hadley’s closest relatives are the other two Zoyas, Natty and Sailor. The flash close up shows their differences well, Sailor is the darkest and Hadley is the grayest, but you don’t need all three. Blue Blood and Strangers in the Night also look close without the flash, but again Hadley is grayer.
