Holiday 2017 Comparisons - Orly Once in a Blue Moon (Darlings of Defiance) - Part 1

From left to right: Fashion Faceoff (Gala Bolds, Summer 2017), Wow (Star Power, Autumn 2017), Amira (Charming, Spring 2017), Once in a Blue Moon, Noel (Gems and Jewels, Holiday 2011), Kiss My Glass (Autumn Nights, Autumn 2013)

Fashion Faceoff and Wow are pure silver, Amira is too warm with its gold glitter, and Noel and Kiss My Glass are too dark.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - Orly Secondhand Jade (Darlings of Defiance) - Part 1

From left to right: Blue Suede (Velvet Dream, Autumn 2017), Queen B (Autumn Nights, Autumn 2013), Smoke Gets in Your Eyes (After Midnight, Autumn 2016), On Your Mistletoes (Ring in the Bling, Holiday 2017), Luck be a Lady (Crystal Prism, Holiday 2017), Cynthia (Smoke, Autumn 2011), Hadley (Sophisticates, Autumn 2017), Secondhand Jade, Holidazed Over You (Love OPI XOXO, Holiday 2017)

I’m going to be brief – Secondhand Jade is a slightly greener and lighter version of Hadley.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - Orly Penny Leather (Darlings of Defiance) - Part 1

I have no idea what color I thought Nadine was.

From left to right: Nadine (Neon Nights, July 2017), Earth Angel (Painted Desert Sephora Exclusive, Summer 2015), Kate (Classics), Rock n Royale (Street Regal, Autumn 2017), Rosemary (Spring to It, March 2017), Penny Leather, Mona (Sophisticates, Autumn 2017), Cassandra (Kisses, London, September 2015), That’s What Friends are Thor (Iceland, Autumn 2017), Elaine (Sophisticates, Autumn 2017)

The only thing that’s really close to Penny Leather is Rosemary – It’s lighter but they’re similar. Mona looks similar in the flash but it’s more red.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - Orly Stiletto on the Run (Darlings of Defiance) - Part 1

From left to right: Strawberry Fields Forever (Very Berry, Autumn 2016), To the Mouse House We Go! (California Dreaming, Summer 2017), Living Legend (Gala Bolds, Summer 2017), Fran (Bask in the Heat, June 2017), Little Red Corvette (Lady in Red, Autumn 2017), Cranberry Kiss (Very Berry, Autumn 2016), Better Off Red (Lady in Red, Autumn 2017), Stiletto on the Run, Lady is a Tramp (Core), Just Bitten (Velvet Dream, Autumn 2017)

I thought I had more reds. The only thing here close enough you don’t need both to Stiletto on the Run is Lady is a Tramp.

Holiday 2017 Red Comparisons

From left to right: My Wish List is You, Be Cherry, Adam Said it’s New Year’s Eve, Ming, Stiletto on the Run, Sheri, Heart and Soul

Here are all the other reds for this holiday. My Wish List is You is by far more orange than anything else here and Be Cherry is too bright to compare to anything else here. The rest of these are in two camps – there’s the middle of the road colors like Adam Said and Ming and the darker shades like Stiletto on the Run, Sheri and Heart & Soul.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - Orly Champagne Slushie (Darlings of Defiance) - Part 1

From left to right: Silken Quartz (Velvet Dream, Autumn 2017), To Have & to Gold (Bridal 2017), Beth (Sophisticates, Autumn 2017), Magical (Romantiques, Spring 2009), Champagne Slushie, High Standards (Summer Reign, Summer 2017), Best Ponies Forever (My Little Pony, Summer 2017), Sweet Carmel Sunday (California Dreaming, Summer 2017)

Champagne Slushie is kind of unique in this lineup – It’s not gold like High Standards, it’s not nude like Silken Quartz, it’s not beige like Magical, and it’s not bronze like Sweet Carmel Sunday.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - Orly Faux Pearl (Darlings of Defiance) - Part 1

From left to right: Ainsley (Cozy in Love, February 2017), Mixtaupe (As If, Autumn 2017), Tatum (Naturel 3, Spring 2017), McKenna (Sophisticates, Autumn 2017), Throne-in’ Shade (Street Regal, Autumn 2017), Faux Pearl, Erin (Spa Essentials), Tip Toe Through the Tulips (Spring Reveries, Spring 2014), Glimmer, Earth Angel (Painted Desert Sephora Exclusive, Summer 2015)

Faux Pearl is a lot like Erin in concept, just not in execution. They’re both nude shimmers, but Erin is sheer and Faux Pearl is opaque, Erin has a warm base but silver shimmer and Faux Pearl has a cool base with gold shimmer. McKenna is also in the same neighborhood, but it’s all cool with silver shimmer.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - Essie Social-Lights (Ring in the Bling) - Part 1

From left to right: Ainsley (Cozy in Love, February 2017), Monique (Lighten Up, March 2016), Beth (Sophisticates, Autumn 2017), Fashion Faceoff (Gala Bolds, Summer 2017), Harley (Twist, Spring 2009), Social-Lights, Don’t Take Yosemite For Granite (California Dreaming, Summer 2017), On the Wild Side (Wild at Heart, Autumn 2009), Kiss My Glass (Autumn Nights, Autumn 2013), Haute & Heavy (Street Regal, Autumn 2017)
Social-Lights is the only thing here with that luscious gold shimmer in it. Harley has a similar base color but the shimmer’s not even close.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - Essie Ring in the Bling (Ring in the Bling) - Part 1

From left to right: Color to Diner For (Touring America, Autumn 2011), Some Like it Hot, Danke-Shiny Red (Germany, Autumn 2012), Ring in the Bling, After Sex (Luscious, Autumn 2004), Chasing Rubies (Lady in Red, Autumn 2017), Hey Gorgeous, Red-y & Willing (Autumn Nights, Autumn 2013), Cinderella Red, Royal Pain in the Ascot (Street Regal, Autumn 2017), Sassy Satchel (Autumn 2006), Wrapped in Rubies (Winter 2007)

Ring in the Bling is really something unique with that gold shimmer in it – the only other thing here that has the same shimmer is Some Like It Hot, but to a much lesser degree. Once I get to comparisons between holiday collections I’ll make sure to compare Ring in the Bling with Sending You Holiday Hugs though.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - Essie On Your Mistletoes (Ring in the Bling) - Part 1

From left to right: Robyn (Flash, Summer 2010), My Boyfriend’s Back (Happy Days, Summer 2016), Less is Norse (Iceland, Autumn 2017), Sara (Kisses, London, September 2015), Cynthia (Smoke, Autumn 2011), Hadley (Sophisticates, Autumn 2017), On Your Mistletoes, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes (After Midnight, Autumn 2016), Queen B (Autumn Nights, Autumn 2013), Blue Suede (Velvet Dream, Autumn 2017)

Well, nothing else here is teal. Hadley comes closest but it’s still very blue. Sorry about that folks. Slide two will be better.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - Essie New Year New Hue (Ring in the Bling) - Part 1

From left to right: Paige (Uptown, Autumn 2007), Black Cherry (Velvet Dream, Autumn 2017), New Year, New Hue, Sofia (Provocateur, Summer 2006), Evan (Future Fresh, January 2017), Mulberry’s Dream & Cherries Jubilee (Very Berry, Autumn 2016), Venus in Furs (Star Power, Autumn 2017), Hayley (Modern Smolder, February 2016), Stacy (Wonderful, Autumn 2010), Miss Independent (Roar, Autumn 2015), Boys n Berries (Very Berry, Autumn 2016)

New Year New Hue isn’t exactly like anything else here but it is rather close to several – It’s a little darker than Paige, it’s a little less bright than Black Cherry, and it’s a little lighter than Sofia and Evan. You probably already have this one.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - Essie Be Cherry (Ring in the Bling) - Part 1

From left to right: Sonja (Wanderlust, Summer 2017), Fire on the Horizon (Sunrise Sunset, Summer 2017), Lee (Set Sail, May 2015), Little Red Corvette (Lady in Red, Autumn 2017), Fran (Bask in the Heat, June 2017), Dita (La-Di-Da, Summer 2009), Be Cherry, Strawberry Fields Forever (Very Berry, Autumn 2016), Cranberry Kiss (Very Berry, Autumn 2016), Man of the Moment, Better Off Red (Lady in Red, Autumn 2017), Queen of Speed (Fast Lane), Raspberry Jam (Very Berry, Autumn 2016)

Be Cherry is on the cooler side of the things here, Dita and Strawberry Fields Forever come closest.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - Essie Suit & Tied (Ring in the Bling) - Part 1

From left to right: Shape of my Heart (Core), Portia (Spa Essentials), Mixtaupe (As If, Autumn 2017), Tatum (Naturel 3, Spring 2017), Throne-in’ Shade (Street Regal, Autumn 2017), Modern Love (Autumn 2012), Cathy (Naturel 3, Spring 2017), Gretchen (Spa Essentials), Suit & Tied, The Look of Love (Bed of Roses, Spring 2017), Presley (Sophisticates, Autumn 2017), High Society (Rebel Debutante, Spring 2010)

Suit & Tied is far darker and rosier than anything else here – Gretchen and The Look of Love come closest but they’re not super-duper close or anything.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - China Glaze Queen of Sequins (The Glam Finale) - Part 1

From left to right: Dora (Stroke of Midnight Mystery Box, December 2016), Opening Night (A Night at the Opera, Autumn 2013), India (Ignite, Autumn 2014), Roxy (Masquerade), You’re So Vain (Seven Deadly Sins, Autumn 2014), Queen of Sequins, Bad Romance (Autumn 2010), Glamcore (Street Regal, Autumn 2017), Rendezvous with You (Autumn Nights, Autumn 2013), Delia (Diamonds Forever Mystery Box, November 2016), Songbird Serenade (My Little Pony, Summer 2017)

Queen of Sequins seems to be taking some cues from Roxy (which is lighter and the glitter is chunkier), You’re So Vain (a texture and a little cooler in tone but otherwise similar), and Bad Romance (way chunkier but a similar color scheme). It’s also a glitzier version of Glamcore from the fall.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - China Glaze The Perfect Holly Day (The Glam Finale) - Part 1

Fun fact: I actually bought Outta Bounds specifically to compare to The Perfect Holly Day because the early promo pics looked a lot like Outta Bounds, but in person they’re really different!

From left to right: Just a Little Embellishment (Street Regal, Autumn 2017), Outta Bounds (Ski, Winter 2007), Sarai (Sun Crush, May 2017), Sonia (Switch Up, November 2015), Rule Breaker (Wild at Heart, Autumn 2009), The Perfect Holly Day, Baroque Jungle (Street Regal, Autumn 2017), Tongue & Chic (Autumn Nights, Autumn 2013), Tabitha (Sophisticates, Autumn 2017), Licorice (Kandee Johnson Vintage Matte)

Like Santa’s Side Chick, The Perfect Holly Day is a matte. The other mattes here are Just a Little Embellishment (not even close, but because it’s so new I thought it was worth throwing in), Sarai (which is a lot brighter), Sonia (which is too blue), and Licorice (which is a black base with green shimmer). With top coat The Perfect Holly Day would be similar to Baroque Jungle.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - China Glaze Santa's Side Chick (The Glam Finale) - Part 1

From left to right: Flame-boyant (Summer Reign, Summer 2017), Rosaline (Very Merry, Holiday 2015), Velvet Rope (Dance to the Musique, Autumn 2008), Color to Diner For (Touring America, Autumn 2011), Santa’s Side Chick, Marina (Sun Crush, May 2017), Chasing Rubies (Lady in Red, Autumn 2017), After Sex (Luscious, Autumn 2004), Red-y and Willing (Autumn Nights, Autumn 2013)

Santa’s Side Chick is a matte, the only other mattes here are Flame-boyant (Which I threw in because it was China Glaze’s other red matte this year but it’s nowhere near close), and Marina, which is close but the shimmer in Marina is green instead of gold. The closest polishes in color, even though they aren’t mattes, are Velvet Rope and Color to Diner For.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - China Glaze New Year New Boo (The Glam Finale) - Part 1

From left to right: Front Page Worthy (Gala Bolds, Summer 2017), Under the Stars (Coastal Crush, Summer 2017), New Year, New Boo, Right Off the Bat (MLB Fashion Plate, Summer 2014), Scandalous Shenanigans (Autumn Nights, Autumn 2013), Rodeo Fanatic (Rodeo Diva, Autumn 2008), Midnight Moonlight

New Year New Boo is a lot inkier than everything else here, but Right Off the Bat and Scandalous Shenanigans are incredibly close, just brighter and more silvery.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - China Glaze Slay Bells Ring (The Glam Finale) - Part 1

From left to right: Harley (Twist, Spring 2009), Fashion Faceoff (Gala Bolds, Summer 2017), Gossip Over Gimlets (Autumn Nights, Autumn 2013), Slay Bells Ring, Don’t Take Yosemite For Granite (California Dreaming, Summer 2017), On the Wild Side (Wild at Heart, Autumn 2009), Kiss My Glass (Autumn Nights, Autumn 2013), After Hours (Dance to the Musique, Autumn 2008), Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous (Swiss, Autumn 2010), Show Time (In True Fashion, Autumn 2012), Nancy (Black Magic, October 2014)

Harley and Fashion Faceoff are too light, and the stuff on the right is too dark. Gossip Over Gimlets is the closest in color, but they’re quite different in finish. Closer in finish is On the Wild Side (which is a lot more blue) and Yosemite (which is pinker).

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - China Glaze Toast It Up and As Good as It Glitz (The Glam Finale) - Part 1

From left to right: Sweet Carmel Sunday (California Dreaming, Summer 2017), Best Ponies Forever (My Little Pony, Summer 2017), High Standards (Summer Reign, Summer 2017), Truth Is Gold (Street Regal, Autumn 2017), Toast It Up, Monique (Lighten Up, March 2016), Beth (Sophisticates, Autumn 2017), Magical (Romantiques, Spring 2009), As Good As It Glitz, To Have & To Gold (Bridal 2017), Reykjavik Has All the Hot Spots (Iceland, Autumn 2017), Fawne (Re-Cher-Che, Spring 2006)

Toast It Up is the lightest of the four golds China Glaze has come out with this year, and it comes close to Silken Quartz, Toast It Up is just a bit more gold and a bit more glitzy while Silken Quartz is more subdued. As Good As it Glitz is almost dead on a dupe to Magical, which I got on clearance over the summer which makes me think that maybe they’re phasing out Magical for As Good As it Glitz.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - China Glaze Sparkle On (The Glam Finale) - Part 1

From left to right: I’m Not Edible (Staccato, Spring 2013), The One that Got Away (Katy Perry, Spring 2011), Lisa (Flame, Holiday 2010), Rosaline (Very Merry, Holiday 2015), Sparkle On, Astra (Ultra Glitter, Holiday 2009), Wild Thing (Winter 2006) Fame and Fortune (Backstage Pass, Autumn 2011), Crimson and Clover (Lady in Red, Autumn 2017)

Astra is the only thing truly close to Sparkle On, the glitter is different but the concept is the same. Lisa and Rosaline are more similar in color palette but different glitter.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - China Glaze Teal the Fever (The Glam Finale) - Part 1

From left to right: Marlise (Trancing in the Moonlight, October 2017), Rina (Gems & Jewels, Holiday 2011), Teal the Fever, Ariel (Trancing in the Moonlight, October 2017)

Marlise and Ariel both have black glitter and Rina has bar glitter. Nothing here is close.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - China Glaze Big Hair & Bubbly (The Glam Finale) - Part 1

From left to right: Marisol (Bask in the Sun, June 2017), Yumi (It’s Your Time to Shine, July 2012), Big Hair & Bubbly, Jane, It’s My Party, Janice (Switch Up, November 2015)
Jane is the only glitter here that’s only one color like Big Hair & Bubbly, but it’s a lot more bronze. Marisol is a similar-ish color but a wildly different finish.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - China Glaze Disco Ball Drop & Don't Be a Snow-Flake (The Glam Finale) - Part 1

From left to right: Don’t Be a Snow-Flake, Yumi (It’s Your Time to Sparkle, July 2012), Disco Ball Drop, It’s My Party, Trixy (Trancing in the Moonlight, October 2017)

I don’t really have too much on hand to compare these with, hence why I included Trixy. Yumi’s a bit like a more beige toned version of Disco Ball Drop.

Holiday 2017 Comparisons - Deborah Lippmann Blue Skies (Crystal Prism) - Part 2

From left to right: Virgin Snow (Virgin Snow, Holiday 2015), Kristen (Feel, Winter 2011), Jessica (April 2012), Secret Peri-Wink-le (Operation: Colour, Autumn 2008), Blue Skies, Avenue Maintain (Madison Ave-Hue, Spring 2013), Udon Know Me (Kimono Over, Autumn 2016), Trudy (Lighten Up, March 2016), I Know What Boys Like (Summer 2011)

Blue Skies isn’t like anything else here, Virgin Snow, Kristen, and Jessica are too light, I Know What Boys Like is too dark, Udon Know Me and Trudy are too green, Avenue Maintain is too bright, and Secret Periwinkle is too saturated.
