Spring 2018 Comparisons - Orly Metallic Haze (Pastel City)

From left to right: Silken Quartz (Velvet Dream, Autumn 2017), Tess (Nourish and Flourish, November 2017), Magical (Romantique, Spring 2009), Hermina (Classics), As Good As It Glitz (The Glam Finale, Holiday 2017), Beth (Sophisticates, Autumn 2017), Metallic Haze, Press * For Silver (Starlight, Holiday 2015), Voyeuristic Adventure (Secret Society, Holiday 2013), Cords (Retro Diva, Autumn 2009), Champagne Slushie (Darlings of Defiance, Holiday 2017)

I pulled out Orly’s two other similar recent releases on either side, but they aren’t close to Metallic Haze - Silken Quartz is way lighter and less metallic and Champagne Slushie is much darker. I was a bit surprised to see that out of everything I pulled out to compare the closest I had was Press * For Silver - I always thought of that as kind of a rose gold, but I suppose it’s been a long time since I’ve really looked at that one. It is darker and rosier than Metallic Haze though, but the finishes are really similar. Beth is also a bit darker and rosier as well, as is As Good As It Glitz. Voyeuristic Adventure is less rosy than Metallic Haze.

Other shades I pulled out to compare that didn’t make the photo cut - Julep Monique (a truer silver), Orly Front Page, OPI Cosmo-Not Tonight Honey, China Glaze Toast It Up, & Zoya Austine (far too warm and golden), Julep Wilma (rosier because it’s almost a beige/pink duochrome), Zoya Lauren (straight up pink in comparison)

Julep Lineup - Randi, Reese, Regina, Rendee

  • Randi (It Girl - Paradise, April 2015) is a pink matte. Very summery!
  • Reese (Classic with a Twist) is a fun bright pink creme. It’s fun and bright!
  • Regina (Bombshell - Rainbow Bright, May 2016) is a fun and glitzy purple/blue sparkler. It’s sheer enough you could use it as a topper and with three coats it’s opaque!
  • Rendee (Wonder Maven - Sun Crush, May 2017) is a blue matte. Eh, I like Sonia better for blue Julep mattes.

Julep Lineup - Polly, Poppy, Priscilla, Rachael

  • Polly (It Girl - Deep End, June 2015) is a fabulous summery pink shimmer. It needs three coats but it’s amazing!
  • Poppy (Boho Glam - Drenched, July 2015) is an orange jelly. Not my fave but it’s pretty.
  • Priscilla (Emerald for May - May 2014) is a green glitter bomb. I wore this last Christmas! They should bring this one back!
  • Rachael (Bombshell - Kisses, London, September 2015) is a warm gray metallic. Nice!

Julep Lineup - Peggy, Pepper, Phyllis, Pisces

  • Peggy (Wonder Maven - Wonder Maven, September 2016) is really something special. It’s almost a brown/green duochrome. I adore this one!
  • Pepper (Wonder Maven - Rainbow Bright, May 2016) is an electric blue with pink shimmer and silver glitter. This is a crazy combo but somehow it works!
  • Phyllis (CWAT - Chrysalis, January 2015) is a peachy nude creme. This is a nice opaque neutral.
  • Pisces (Zodiac - March 2016) is a little sheer but the finished result is really fun. It’s an orange/pink duochrome!

Julep Lineup - Pamela, Patricia, Paula, Paulina

  • Pamela (It Girl - Beauty Mystery Box, April 2015) is an interesting combo - a mossy green metallic mixed with orange glitter. A really special polish!
  • Patricia (Bombshell - Naughty or Nice, December 2014) is a purple metallic. Very vampy, I love it!
  • Paula (Bombshell - Countdown, December 2014) is a violet with gold shimmer. Another combo you don’t see enough!
  • Paulina (It Girl - New York Never Sleeps, October 2015) is a teal metallic. A stunner.

Julep Lineup - Nayley, Octavia, Pacita, Pam

  • Nayley (Bombshell - Pop, March 2015) is a pale peach creme. Not my fave thing but a good creme if you like this color.
  • Octavia (CWAT - Dramatic, February 2014) is a beautiful dark blue-purple creme. Such a beautiful and unique shade!
  • Pacita (Wonder Maven - Future Fresh, January 2017) is a brown/green duochrome sheer topper. What a pretty color that’s even pretty on its own!
  • Pam (It Girl - Endless Summer, August 2016) is an orange holographic. This might be my only orange holo!

Julep Lineup - Myrtle, Nadine, Nancy, Naveena

  • Myrtle (CWAT - Set the Stage, May 2013) is a basic red creme. A classic.
  • Nadine (Boho Glam - Neon Nights, July 2017) is a bright, fun orange creme. It doesn’t quite photograph well though but I really do love it!
  • Nancy (Bombshell - Black Magic, October 2014) is a dark gray foil with a strong green tone. This is another really unique foil!
  • Naveena (Wonder Maven - Midsummer Light, June 2016) is a blue-toned green jelly. Not my fave but something unique.

Julep Lineup - Missy, Mona, Monique, Myriam

  • Missy (It Girl - Rebel Set, October 2013) is a dark silver foil. This isn’t your average bright silver foil like Zoya Trixie (The new Addi is Julep’s bright silver foil, I don’t have that one yet), it’s a bit more grayed. It’s an interesting take on a classic!
  • Mona (Classic with a Twist - Boudoir, January 2015) is a dark gray creme. I love this one, it’s got an amazing formula and it’s so pretty! I think the new Imogen might be similar.
  • Monique (Bombshell - Lighten Up, March 2016) is a warm silver metallic. Like Missy this is an interesting take on basic silver!
  • Myriam (CWAT - Riviera, March 2014) is an orange jelly. This is a little dull but fine.

Julep Lineup - Mercedes, Mercer, Meredith, Michaela

  • Mercedes (It Girl - Light and Shadow, November 2016) is a rose gold foil. This is a bit sheer but very pretty! Perfect for fall.
  • Mercer (It Girl - Sparkling Sights, Holiday 2016) is an emerald green metallic. Gorgeous!
  • Meredith (Wonder Maven - Wonder Maven, September 2016) is a really unique pale blue metallic. I have nothing else like this!
  • Michaela (Boho Glam - New York Never Sleeps, October 2015) is a really complex brown with green glitter. An interesting combo!

Julep Lineup - Matilda, Meghan, Melinda, Melody

  • Matilda (Color of the Year 2016 - Midsummer Light, June 2016) is a blue creme. I really love this one, Julep does great blues!
  • Meghan (CWAT - Modern Smolder, February 2016) is a warm red creme. Not my fave ever but very nice.
  • Melinda (It Girl - All is Bright, Holiday 2015) is a pink berry holo. So pretty!
  • Melody (It Girl - Switch Up, November 2015) is a silver and blue glitter topper. This is a really versatile glitter topper, I love wearing Melody over red!

Julep Lineup - Marissa, Marisol, Marlise, Marta

  • Marissa (Boho Glam - Shine On, April 2016) is a red toned purple sheer. Not too much to say about this except this one I’d say you could probably get opaque in three coats.
  • Marisol (Boho Glam - Bask in the Heat, June 2017) is a sheer gold. This is another 3 coater.
  • Marlise (Wonder Maven - Trancing in the Moonlight, October 2017) is a green and black glitter. Very halloween!
  • Marta (It Girl - Future Fresh, January 2017) is a purple sheer topper but it’s opaque and fabulous in two coats! I love this one!

Julep Lineup - Mara, Margarita, Mariah, Marina

  • Mara (It Girl - Drenched, July 2015) is a pink texture with a silver shimmer. Not my fave texture ever but I do really like it.
  • Margarita (Bombshell - Black Magic, October 2014) is a purple creme. This is really dark but really glossy!
  • Mariah (CWAT - New Year Fresh Look, January 2016) is a purple metallic. This is I believe the most cool toned of all of Julep’s purple metallics.
  • Marina (CWAT - Sun Crush, May 2017) is a red matte. It’s really pretty and unique!

Julep Lineup - Madelynn, Magdalene, Maggie, Mallory

  • Madelynn (It Girl - Muse Montreal, August 2015) is a purple with pink shimmer. Really cool looking!
  • Magdalene (Boho Glam - Drenched, July 2015) is a bright and glowy teal metallic. So fabulous!
  • Maggie (Bombshell - November 2015) is a purple with silver glitter. It’s not quite as fabulous on the nail as it is in the bottle but it’s still really pretty!
  • Mallory (CWAT - Into the Sea, July 2016) is a medium pink creme. Very standard but very nice.

Julep Lineup - Louisa May, Luella, Lula, Lydia

  • Louisa May (Citrine for November, November 2015) is a pretty golden brown. I can’t think of anything else this color, everything is either too orange or not brown enough.
  • Luella (Color of the Year 2016 - Midsummer Light, June 2016) is a baby pink creme. This is really pretty and quite nice. Great formula.
  • Lula (CWAT - This Way to the Soiree, December 2016) is a red/pink sparkle. This isn’t my favorite polish in this color family but it’s nice.
  • Lydia (Boho Glam - Kisses, London, September 2015) is one of Julep’s most unique colors. It’s a Stardust Finish (Their textured finish) and it’s an army green with gold glitter. Army green is usually not my color but Lydia is so chic!

Julep Lineup - Lizanne, London, Lorraine, Lottie

  • Lizanne (It Girl - Riviera, March 2014) is a teal green with blue shimmer. This is really unique and pretty! It’s a very wearable teal.
  • London (CWAT - Afterglow, February 2015) is a warm purple creme. Very springy!
  • Lorraine (CWAT - Midsummer Light, June 2016) is a pink/purple with silver shimmer. This is a nice classy polish that feels kind of retro but still fun.
  • Lottie (CWAT - Neon Nights, July 2017) is one of the best white cremes I’ve ever used. Two easy coats and a non-streaky finish. It’s a very nice stark white too.

Julep Lineup - Lida, Liesl, Linda, Liza

  • Lida (Boho Glam - Sun Crush, May 2017) is a yellow matte with a red shifting shimmer. This isn’t particularly flattering on my skin tone although it is a cool concept and the formula is decent for something yellow. Three coats.
  • Liesl (Bombshell - Relax and Remix, April 2017) is one of my all time favorite Juleps. This color is one of my favorite colors and the formula is amazing. I got two!
  • Linda (It Girl - New York Never Sleeps, October 2015) is a chic and flattering gray creme. I don’t usually go for gray but I love Linda.
  • Liza (Aquamarine for March, March 2015) is a girly baby blue glitter. It’s really sheer on the first coat and could probably use three coats, but the finished product is quite pretty.

Julep Lineup - Lee, Leo, Leona, Libra

  • Lee (It Girl - Set Sail, May 2015) is a warm toned red creme. Not unique but very classic.
  • Leo (Zodiac, August 2016) is a really cool looking gold/green duochrome. Very opaque and cool!
  • Leona (Diamond for April, April 2015) is a sheer white, blue, and pink shimmer. This is a little sheer but it’d make a good topper!
  • Libra (Zodiac, October 2016) is a pink sheer glitter topper. It’s okay.

Julep Lineup - Kristjana, Krystle, Lainey, Lara

  • Kristjana (It Girl - This Way to the Soiree, December 2016) is the purple version of Ginny and it’s just as great. The orange shimmer shows up less against the purple background than it does against the blue but it’s still fab. I love this!
  • Krystle (Wonder Maven - Dark and Stormy Nights, October 2016) is a green creme with a subtle shimmer. It shows up way better in the picture than it does in real life. It’s a lot more creme like in real life. It’s such a pretty color either way!
  • Lainey (Wonder Maven - Drenched, July 2015) is a magenta metallic. This doesn’t have the best formula and there’s lots of other similar colors with better formulas.
  • Lara (Bombshell - Spring to It, March 2017) is a pink with a strong gold shimmer. This is quite pretty, although I’d wear 3 coats. Very unique!

Julep Lineup - Kay, Keiko, Kendra, Kerry

  • Kay (CWAT - Modern Smolder, February 2016) is a neutral brown shimmer. This is a lot like Zoya Beth if you got that one this fall. It’s nice.
  • Keiko (Bombshell - Afterglow, February 2015) is a very dark green shimmer. This is darker and less shimmery than Kendra. It’s nice but I prefer Kendra.
  • Kendra (It Girl - Rebel Set, October 2015) is a fabulous dark green shimmer. This never looks black even in non-direct lighting. I love this! It’s so perfect for fall.
  • Kerry (Boho Glam - Switch Up, November 2015) is a gold matte metallic. This isn’t great on my skin tone but it is incredibly cool looking.

Julep Lineup - Kathy, Katie, Katrina, Katya

  • Kathy (Pearl for June, June 2014) is a chic looking golden shimmer, although it really doesn’t look anything like a pearl. Really unique! It’s more gold than Brenda.
  • Katie (CWAT - Wanderlust, August 2014) is a warm toned purple shimmer. This one I’m not crazy about, the shimmer kinda dies on the nail.
  • Katrina (Bombshell - Bow on Top, Holiday 2015) is quite different from Kathy in person. Kathy is a fine gold shimmer, Katrina is a beige and silver glitter combo. This is really great and opaque!
  • Katya (CWAT - Dark and Stormy Nights, October 2016) is a dark purple creme. Solid but not super exciting.

Julep Lineup - Judy, Juniper, Jyliana, Karina

  • Judy (Boho Glam - All Night Long, December 2015) is a fabulous polish. They call it a “moonbeam metallic” and that’s just a perfect description. It’s a champagne fine glitter that dries down smooth but sparkly. This is one of few Juleps I have two of and I love every drop!
  • Juniper (Boho Glam - Luminous Lights, Holiday 2016) is a blue metallic. It’s lighter and more silvery than Eunice. This is nice.
  • Jyliana (It Girl - Spring to It, March 2017) is a really unique sage green creme. Great formula too!
  • Karina (Bombshell - Neon Nights, July 2017) is a bright purple creme. Not a neon as the collection name would have you believe but it is very summery and has a better formula than most neons!
